Funding London’s priorities
Before the Fund was launched, these key aims were developed into funding priorities in consultation with the key stakeholders. Grants were only awarded to projects supporting one or more of the funding priorities.
Using LDA funding of £2 million in years 3 and 4, the original priorities were expanded to include waste and recycling related economic development, job creation and skills enhancement, by stimulating the development of a new strategic recycling infrastructure in London.

The main priorities were:
Enabling and expanding recycling collections
- kerbside recycling
- estate and flats recycling.
Building a new strategic recycling infrastructure
- developing multi-materials sorting facilities, aerobic composting, anaerobic digestion and other treatment facilities
- expanding bulking and transfer facilities for waste separated at source
- improving local public reuse and recycling centres (civic amenity sites) and bring bank systems.
Improving participation through awareness, education and promotion programmes
- building awareness of recycling schemes locally and across London
- increasing public participation in recycling schemes through awareness, education and promotion
- developing educational campaigns aimed at schools, colleges and other training establishments.
Enabling and expanding waste reduction and reuse
- providing resources to develop and expand waste minimisation and reuse schemes.
Building a new materials reprocessing infrastructure for London (EDIB)
- creating opportunities for developing jobs and skills in new resource processing and reprocessing operations.
